Samuel Hardie
Samuel Hardie is one of the foremans at the Rowntree Munitions Factory where his wife, Muriel Hightower-Hardie, works as the clan's head bookkeeper. Unlike many of the men who oversee the production of Rowntree firearms and ammunition, Samuel does not believe that violence and threats are effective tools when it comes to keeping in line those who are not employed willingly by the factory. He works closely both with his wife and slave trader Lucien Bassingwaithe when it comes to acquiring new labour and has a compassionate reputation; many families would have been split apart if Samuel did not make the extra effort to keep them together, and on occasions when he has no choice but to punish a disobedient employee, his decisions are notoriously firm but always fair.
Not coincidentally, Samuel is also a spy for Clan Ross and feeds the Rowntree's rivals information about what is going on in the factory in the hope that they may be able to use their influence and peacefully inspire change in the way that the factory is run.
